Continent bound hauliers given Seitan Sandwiches following produce Brexit ban

Updated: May 24, 2021

Vegan food brand LoveSeitan has come up with the initiative of giving lorry drivers crossing into the EU from Great Britain animal product free seitan filled sandwiches.

News reports have recently detailed how lorry drivers' lunches are being confiscated by officials abroad. Sandwiches containing animal products are being classed as a personal import, and are prohibited. The LoveSeitan products get around this by being being vegan, giving the lorry drivers lunch and giving no reason for border officials to confiscate their food.

This has been done along with sandwich brand Simply Lunch. The scheme has given 500 lorry drivers sustenance for their journeys. The scheme has been given the title Operation Snack!

What is Seitan?

Seitan is made from meat, and is sometimes referred to as wheat gluten. Its texture is often regarded as similar to meat, but its main advantages are that its high in protein but low in fat.

It is not new, having existed in Asia since the 6th century. The term Seitan is thought to have been first used in the 1960s however, and its popularity is increasing with greater demand for vegan and vegetarian products.
