Mini announce they will stop using leather in their cars

Updated: May 24, 2021

As part of a sustainability drive, leather will no longer as an option in Mini cars, the manufacturer has announced.

The company now believes that leather is unsustainable, and that it can produce high end cars without the need of the product. In 2020, only 54% of customers bought a car with leather, so it is far from true to state all customers want leather.

Aside from what Mini have said, leather is a terrible material for seats anyway. In the summer, its too hot and uncomfortable, and in the winter its cold, especially if the seats are not heated. There was a time when the chauffer had the leather seat, and the passengers had luxurious cloth.

A welcome decision from Mini, and hopefully more manufactures will follow suit.
