Richmond creating a vegan range may appear as odd as the Linda McCartney brand opening an abattoir, but in fact it makes sense for Richmond to do. For those switching from meat, maybe it helps of they can buy from a brand they know, and it furthers the cause then its all positive.
I imagine Richmond are trying to future proof their brand too, by offering vegan options as the diet becomes more popular and less animals are consumed. Who knows, perhaps the day will come when their meat processing business will cease and they'll be a exclusively a producer of meat-free food, one can hope.
The vegan sausages that Richmond make are among my favourites, so my hopes were high for these. The ones available in the fresh section do waste packaging, which is a shame, however they have done well on the taste.
They are sized well, seasoned well, and look good. I cooked them in the oven and they were soft and did pleasantly taste different from others on the market. They have not just put their sausage recipe into a ball either, they are clearly different tasting products.
They taste nice, and complement a tomato and basil sauce well. They are not my favourite, they are still Sainsbury's effort, but these really are not bad at all, and definitely worth trying.
