The Curators Mushroom Burger Review

Updated: May 28, 2021

Spring is upon us and summer is not far away, so barbeque season will soon be in full swing. It is timely therefore, to review some vegan delights that are likely to impress this year.

This review is of product from a relatively new start up, The Curators (some of their products contain meat). Unfortunately, this review starts badly, as there is so much excess packaging. There is no plastic, its just a cardboard box, but one that could be half the size. With the box as thick as it is, there is no need for it to be as long as it is, and the two could be placed upon each other. In fact when I opened the box they were.

They are 86% mushroom, and encompass much of the goodness that mushrooms have. They, as you would expect, taste very strongly of mushroom, so for anyone who likes mushroom these will be pleasant. For convenience, it is possible to see why someone would buy these. Their texture also differs from mushroom to be more burger like.

However, if its a strong mushroom flavour you are after, I think you could do better than buying these. You could buy some large flat mushrooms, sometimes called breakfast mushrooms, and cook them with seasoning. The taste would not be that different from these. Also, if they are locally grown, and do not come in a plastic wrap, you would likely be doing the environment a favour compared to buying these Dutch made burgers.
